DiscMeet vs Fathom

Fathom is one of the best free meeting notetakers on the market, and its new bot-free mode is a genuine step forward. But both of its capture modes are tied to a short list of meeting apps, and Discord is not on it.

The short version

If your calls are on Zoom, Google Meet, Teams or Slack Huddles, Fathom is hard to beat — unlimited free recording and summaries. If your calls are in Discord, Fathom cannot record them at all: its bot only joins those four platforms, and its bot-free capture is limited to the same list. DiscMeet is built for exactly that gap, and adds a tabletop mode Fathom has no equivalent for.

Where Fathom wins

  • Price. The free plan is genuinely unlimited — recordings, transcripts and summaries — with no trial cliff.
  • Bot-free capture. On Mac you can record Zoom, Meet, Teams and Slack Huddles with nothing joining the call.
  • A deep sales and ops toolkit: CRM sync, Zapier and Make, clips and playlists, and a mature team workspace.

Where DiscMeet wins

  • It works in Discord. Fathom does not — and because its bot-free mode is also limited to its supported apps, there is no workaround.
  • Notes land in the channel where the conversation happened, visible to everyone who was there, without anyone opening another app.
  • Tabletop is a first-class mode: campaigns and characters feed the transcription so invented names come out right, and every session gets a recap.

Which one

Pick Fathom if

  • Your meetings are on Zoom, Meet, Teams or Slack Huddles.
  • You want a genuinely unlimited free notetaker.
  • You need CRM and sales workflows.

Pick DiscMeet if

  • Your team, community or table runs on Discord.
  • You want notes posted to the channel, not in a separate app.
  • You run RPG sessions.

Questions

Can Fathom record a Discord call?
No. Fathom records Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Slack Huddles. Its bot-free desktop capture (beta, Mac) is limited to the same apps, so it cannot pick up Discord audio either. Discord is not mentioned anywhere on Fathom’s site.
Is Fathom really free?
Yes. Fathom’s free plan includes unlimited recordings, transcripts and AI summaries. Paid plans add features like Ask Fathom, CRM sync and team workspaces.
Does DiscMeet have a free plan like Fathom?
No. DiscMeet has a free trial of 2 recordings (1 hour each), then paid plans from $9.99 a month for 60 hours. Fathom is the better choice if price is the only criterion and your calls are not in Discord.
Can both connect to Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. Both expose an MCP server, so an AI assistant can read your meetings. DiscMeet also supports Cursor.
