D&D Characters
Characters represent NPCs and players in your D&D campaigns. Assign them to campaigns and Discord users for better transcript attribution.
Create a character
- Run
/discmeet characters - Select Create New Character
- Choose NPC Character or Player Character
- Enter name and description
NPC Character
- Name and description
- Can be assigned to a campaign
- Not linked to a Discord user
Player Character
- Name and description
- Can be assigned to a Discord user (for speaker attribution in transcripts)
- Can be assigned to a campaign
Assign to player
For player characters, you can assign them to a Discord user. When that user speaks during a D&D session, the transcript can attribute their lines to the character.
To assign:
- Edit the character
- Select Assign to Player or Reassign Player
- Choose the Discord user
Assignment sessions expire after 60 seconds. If it times out, try again from /discmeet characters.
Assign to campaign
Characters can be linked to a campaign. This associates them with that campaign’s sessions.
- Edit the character
- Select Assign Campaign
- Choose the campaign
Active
Each character has an Active toggle (in Discord when you edit a character, and on the dashboard under D&D → Characters).
When Active is on and the character is linked to a campaign, DiscMeet treats that name as part of the current story—so unusual spellings and fantasy names are more likely to appear correctly in transcripts. Turn Active off for characters you are not using right now (old PCs, tests, or one-offs you do not want mixed in).
You can do the same for locations and items in the dashboard.
Edit, unlink, delete
- Edit Name & Description — Update character details
- Reassign Player — Change which Discord user the character is assigned to
- Unlink Player — Remove the Discord user assignment
- Delete Character — Permanently delete (cannot be undone)
Pagination
If you have many characters, use the Prev and Next buttons to navigate pages.
Browser dashboard (bulk import and more)
In Discord you create and edit characters one at a time. On the dashboard , you also get:
- Bulk import characters — Import many characters at once (for example when moving from a spreadsheet or setting up a large table).
- Bulk delete — Filter and remove many characters when you need a cleanup.
- Assign to players — Link player characters to Discord users from the dashboard, in addition to the flows above.
- Active toggle per row — Same idea as locations and items: turn names on or off for the current story without deleting them.
See Getting started § Billing and browser settings for where D&D and bulk tools live in the browser.
