Permissions & RolesRequired permissions

Required Permissions

DiscMeet needs specific Discord permissions to function. This page lists what the bot needs and what users need to run commands.

Bot permissions

Transcription channel

The bot needs these permissions in the channel where transcripts are posted:

  • View Channel
  • Send Messages
  • Manage Threads
  • Attach Files
  • Embed Links

Voice channel

To join and record in a voice channel, the bot needs:

  • Connect
  • View Channel

Management (for creating campaign channels)

When creating D&D campaign channels, the bot needs:

  • Manage Channels

User permissions

To run setup, join, start, stop, campaigns, characters, upgrade, and manage commands, you need either:

  • Manage Channels permission, or
  • Be the server owner

See Who can start meetings for details on meeting access roles.

Fixing missing permissions

If the bot is missing required permissions, you’ll see an error like:

The bot is missing these permissions: View Channel, Send Messages, Manage Threads…

To fix:

  1. Go to Server Settings → Integrations → Bots & Apps
  2. Find DiscMeet Bot and grant all permissions
  3. Or re-invite the bot with updated permissions from discmeet.com

Channel-specific issues

If the bot can’t post in the transcription channel, ensure it has Send Messages and Manage Threads in that channel. Channel-specific permission overrides can block the bot even if it has server-wide permissions.

If a transcription was processed but couldn’t be posted due to permissions, fix the channel permissions and run /discmeet retry to resend the notes to your server.
