Single mic mode

Single mic mode

Sometimes a whole room joins a call through one person’s Discord account: a meeting around one laptop, or a table playing in person with one mic. DiscMeet hears everyone as that one account, so notes that say “Sid said…” or “Sid agreed…” would credit one person with everything the room said.

Single mic mode avoids that. It turns on automatically; there’s nothing to set up.

When it turns on

It turns on for any recording, meeting or RPG session, where only one person was in the voice channel while it recorded. The bot doesn’t count itself. People who haven’t opted in under consent opt-in aren’t recorded, so they aren’t counted either.

It goes by who was in the call, not who spoke. If two people were in the call and only one of them talked, it stays off and the notes name people as usual.

What it changes

The notes don’t credit anyone. They’re written neutrally:

  • “It was agreed to ship on Friday”, not “Sid agreed to ship on Friday”
  • “A concern was raised about pricing”, not “Sid raised a concern about pricing”

A person is named only when the words themselves name them, for example “Alex will send the report”. Action items get an owner only when one was named that way.

RPG recaps credit characters only when the story names them. “Thorn swings at the goblin” stays credited to Thorn; anything else is credited to “a party member” or “the party”, never to whoever’s account the mic was on.

Pronoun settings aren’t used for these notes, since nobody is being referred to.

What stays the same

The transcript is unchanged. Every line still shows the account the audio came from, in Discord, in the dashboard, and in webhooks and the API. Everything else works as normal: where notes are posted, notes destinations, your custom prompt and MP3 recording.

It also applies when you regenerate the notes for one of these recordings from the dashboard.

If Transcription only is on, no notes are written, so single mic mode has nothing to change.

Getting named notes

Notes can only credit people correctly when DiscMeet can tell them apart. If you want each person named, have everyone join the voice channel from their own Discord account.
